PETER SKINNER. We are very sad to report that Peter Skinner, our bell tower captain for more than 30 years, died on 11th March, from complications arising from chemotherapy. He will be greatly missed.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE   Following recent advice from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York, we will not be shaking hands during the Peace, and the Ministry Team will not be shaking hands with you as you leave the church. The Ministry Team will use hand sanitizer immediately before Holy Communion, and only the Priest will take the wine at Communion. When we give you the bread – the wafer – we will put it in your hands not on your tongue. If you receive a blessing it will be without physical contact. These measures seek to further reduce the risk of the virus, or any colds or flu, being passed around while we are in church. When we can, we will have hand sanitizers available to use on entry to the church. Please be aware it contains a high level of alcohol.

If you are diagnosed with Coronavirus, please let the clergy or churchwardens know, so that we can take the appropriate action. At this time, it is particularly important that we each look out for our neighbours and friends. Particularly any who are self-isolating – are they getting food and other essential supplies delivered to them? A phone call can help lift spirits. Let us continue to remember in our prayers, those who are suffering or otherwise affected by the virus.

EASTER LILIES If you wish to make a donation to the church’s Easter lilies in memory of a loved one (usually £1 per name) please hand money and names into the Parish Office by Friday 3rd April at the latest. Please do print the names very clearly, so that we can write them up properly on our memorial notice.

LENT LUNCH Tuesday 7 April at 12.30 pm, in St George’s, Beckenham Church Hall.  All welcome.  Bring and share – savoury or sweet.  Items will be put on a central table so that those who come can help themselves.  Cheese, French bread, tea and coffee provided.  Donations in aid of Welcare in Bromley.  Please let Gillian Scales know if you hope to be there – 020 8663 3173,

SUMMER JAZZ. Save the date! Tim Boniface and his Jazz Band will be giving a concert of jazz favourites and original material in St Nicholas on Saturday 13th June. Ticket details to follow nearer the time.

RECYCLING The Chislehurst Society and the Friends of Chislehurst Recreation Ground are running an exhibition on the theme of recycling in 4 different locations in Chislehurst over the next few weeks to coincide with Keep Britain Tidy Spring Clean campaign. The exhibition starts here next Saturday 21st and runs until Saturday 28th, before moving on to other locations. It will be on display at the back of the church and staffed between 12.30 and 2.30 each day. There will be new “Friel on Friday” videos on the Chislehurst Society website and You Tube page to support the exhibition.

INTERREGNUM UPDATE Following discussions with the Archdeacon and the Diocese, the advert for the post of Rector is being published. It is placed, with the Parish Profile, on the Diocese website and on the Church of England’s recruitment site. Please do remember that appointments generally take between 9 and 12 months before the new Rector is installed. We are very fortunate to have Tim (who leaves in July) and June to help us through this period. If you have any questions, please do contact our churchwardens Sarah or Anthony.

KNITTING CLUB, Bulls Head Lounge Our stocks of wool are running low and we would be very grateful for any spare wool that anyone in the congregation is willing to give us.  A box is available at the back of the church for all donations.  Thank you.

JANSON DRINKING FOUNTAIN In the corner of the churchyard opposite the Tigers Head is the Janson Drinking Fountain. It has not been used for many years. A team led by Andrew Wilton has persuaded Thames Water that restoring the fountain would be provide a useful community asset. Once restored, those walking past (including the hundreds of students attending Coopers School) would be able to top up their water bottles, thus cutting down the use of single-use plastic bottles. The Chislehurst Society and the Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association are generously providing the funding for this work and the water will be supplied by Thames Water at no cost. The church has applied for a Faculty (permission from the Diocese) for this work and the plans are on display in the library corner

GIVING by card You can make your offering to St. Nicholas Church using your credit/debit card or Apple Pay. If you wish to donate this way rather than using the collection plate, please see one of the team who are giving out the books this morning.
