Bellringing at St Nicholas, Chislehurst

The art of bell ringing is great fun for everyone of any age!

For more than 300 years church bells have rung out, not just to call communities to worship, but also to celebrate special occasions, in remembrance of others and to signify important events.

They are an important tradition and part of the soundscape of the UK.

Here at St Nicholas’ Chislehurst, we regularly ring before Sunday morning service.

Our bells also rang out to mark some recent significant, national events. These included: The Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee; followed not long after by muffled ringing as a mark of respect at her passing in September 2022. In May 2023 they were rung more joyously to the sound of the National Anthem as we ‘Rang for the King’ to commemorate the coronation.

You may have been a ringer in the past or a complete beginner wanting to find out more about this intriguing hobby which brings so many skills and talents to the fore.

Do please consider ringing with us at St Nicholas’ Church so that we can keep this wonderful part of the local soundscape alive.
